Surveys Show an Interest Among Consumers for Mobile Marketing Messages via SMS

As reported in the UK's Mobile Marketing Magazine, a recent study shows great interest in mobile marketing messages via SMS among consumers. 2,029 adults were surveyed, though only 1,725 owned a mobile phone. The study measured preference toward receiving these messages from different businesses.

The results show that nearly half of adults would be interested in opting in to receive marketing messages directly from companies. This is a number we are already familiar with, and we expect it to grow in the near future.

But are any industries favored for these mobile campaigns? Food, entertainment, and consumer products top this list. 53% of text-friendly consumers would want information about deals at local restaurants. About a third of these people are interested in pizza and fast food specifically.

Clothing sale alerts and information about events or movies would also see success.

This shows that it might be beneficial to owners of small restaurants and bars (and the agencies that represent them) to create a mobile database of customers. Their weekly or monthly messages about insider deals and happy hours could bring more feet through the door.
